The Tabernacle

Comparison of Moses Ministry to Jesus Christ Ministry

Moses

Jesus Christ

40 years of Bondage (Acts 7:30) before he was visited by the burning bush

40 Years of silence from Malachi until John the Baptist preached.

Went into the wilderness of Sin (Exodus 16:1)

Led into the wilderness by the Spirit to be tempted of the devil  (Matthew 4:1)

40 day fast on Mount Sinai during which he was given the Laws of God and given the tabernacle plan.  God specifically gave Moses instruction to appoint Bezaleel (Exodus 31:1) to build the tabernacle plan

40 day fast in the wilderness after which he chose the apostles (Matthew 4:8) first one mentioned is Simon Peter who would be the architect of the NT tabernacle. Compare Amos 9:11 to Acts 2:38, Peter preached the NT plan of Salvation in accordance to the tabernacle pattern given to Moses on Mount Sinai.

The Holy Place

        i.            Incense

      ii.            Shewbread

    iii.            Candlestick

The Holy Place is a type and shadow of the New Testament Christian life.  Only the priests were allowed in the Holy Place.  The instruments of this place are for the equipping of the priest mission without these instruments the priest could not perform his duties.

        i.            Prayer

      ii.            The Word of God

    iii.            Revelation

1 Peter 2:9 calls all of the saints the “royal priesthood” and 2 Cor 5:19 says that the saints are committed the word of reconciliation, v20 says that the saints are the ambassadors of Christ. The mission of the born again church is a priest mission we must partake of the spiritual instruments represented in the Holy Place to accomplish our calling.

The Outer Court

The Outer Court was the entrance to the tabernacle.  The priests took the sacrifices from the people at the outer court and killed the animals at the brazen altar.  The blood was drained and then taken with the priest to enter the Holy Place.  The priest was commanded to wash at the laver (water) or he would die (Exodus 30:20) if he entered without it.  This was the only method God allowed.

The entrance to the kingdom of God is being born of water and of the Spirit (John 3:5) Jesus said that we must be born again.  Much like Moses put the responsibility of the tabernacle on Bezaleel, Jesus placed the responsibility of the church on the apostles (Peter).  The apostles preached water and Spirit in Acts 2:38 which is the tabernacle fulfilled.  Just like Moses gave the command of washing before entering (Exodus 30:20), Jesus taught exactly the same thing.  (Mark 16:16 – you must believe AND be baptized in water to be saved.)
